Big John

This morning I learned that a friend of many died. I knew him as "big John", a face that was always around, a big brother type. A faithful member of my church, someone who loved God. He loved people, including the trying teenagers. He was truly a servant. His suffering (though silent and sort of a mystery to many) is over and he is with his Maker.

To me this is a lesson to be careful with our moments. To put aside the things in life that really aren't a big deal. If you can bite your tongue, swallow your pride.. do it. And if you can love, encourage someone, be a friend.. do that too. Time is too freakin' short.

It is sad to lose someone, but when you know they're with the Lord and no longer suffering - it makes it a bit easier. One of the things that I've been convicted of and am working to change is how I love others. I tend to be skeptical and guarded by nature, opening up to others as Jesus did is harder than it seems. Sounds like "big John" definitely had God's heart.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

Life *is* too short. I believe that a life well-lived includes treasuring the people around us and enjoying every moment we have with them. It's hard to remember sometimes ... thanks for reminding me.

Good for you for seeing a lesson through such a hard time. I'll be thinking of you.

A great reminder to all of us to live life to the fullest and not let it pass us by.

Somehow Blogger ate my comment this morning. ugh.

I think I said something like - it sounds like "Big John" was a heck of a guy. The more people I know who've gone on to be with the Lord, the more I believe that the Lord puts some people here on this Earth to make a huge impact in a short period of time.

I'll keep you and "Big John's" family in my prayers.

To quote someone who really knows how to be a friend...
"Love Ya.
Mean it!"

Big John sounds like an amazing man and it is obvious that he left an impression on you......you, in turn, are giving that same gift to us! Thanks for reminding us that every moment is a gift.
